Islands around Dubrovnik

Special islands in the area are the Elaphiti Islands.

Even Gaius Iulius Caesar was in the Elaphiti Islands.

Sipan is the likely site of the naval battle of Tauris during Caesar's civil war.

Most of the coral reefs, rocks and islands off Dubrovnik are part of the famous and beautiful Elaphiti Islands. They consist of five main islands and countless small islets, rocks and reefs. Koločep, Lopud and Šipan are inhabited while Jakljan and Olip have no permanent residents. Recognized and described in ancient Roman times, this group of islands is named after the deer population that called it home in the past ("Elaphos" means "stag" in Greek). The Elaphiti Islands are often regarded as the preferred getaway for guests and residents of Dubrovnik due to their pristine natural beauty: inviting beaches with a clear blue sea and perfect shade.
